BREVARD COUNTY • SATELLITE BEACH, FLORIDA – Keep Brevard Beautiful awarded the City of Satellite Beach for the Gail Meredith Seaside Forest at City Hall.

Meredith was a board member of the Brevard Indian River Lagoon Coalition as well as a turtle walk volunteer for the Friends of the Carr Refuge, and a member of the Marine Resources Council and the Conradina Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society.

She passed away during a hurricane in September 2019.

Fundraising for this forest was supported by volunteers, the Brevard Indian River Lagoon Coalition, the Conradina Chapter FNPS and the Friends of the Carr Refuge.

“Eagle Scout Troop 309 created the educational signage, and the results are amazing,” said City of Satellite Beach officials. “A big thanks to everyone who helped make this project possible, especially our team at Public Works, who maintained and improved the plantings year-round.”

Gail’s vision was to create a native tree and plant garden that would inspire others to plant natives in their homes. We have created this project in her honor.

“Next time you are at City Hall, please walk the forest and be inspired by nature to plant natives at your home. Planting trees reduces carbon in the atmosphere, reduces rainwater pluses from stormwater, and creates a cooler environment, all while providing habitat for wildlife to thrive,” said City of Satellite Beach officials.

The Satellite Beach City Hall is located at 565 Cassia boulevard.
