Eastern Florida State College Baseball Team Opens Conference Season Against Miami-Dade

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College baseball team opens the Southern Conference with a three-game series beginning Wednesday.

The Titans will open with defending conference champion Miami Dade who are 16-7-1 on the season.

The first game of the series will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Bruce Bochy Field with the final two games on Friday and Saturday in Miami.

“We played a really tough schedule early on and I like where the guys are, it Is a fresh start this week,” Eastern Florida State College baseball coach Steven Brown said.

“Miami Dade is not only one of the best teams in the state, but the entire country, they played in the championship game to go to the national tournament last year and the year before that they went to the national tournament so they have a great program and we just need to go out and play our style of baseball.”

Eastern Florida State College comes into the series 12-11 on the season and is 8-5 this season at home where they are hitting .352 as a team.

The Titans lead Region 8 in stolen bases with 60 this season led by shortstop Carlos Cordero who has 10 this season.

Gabriel Cruz leads the offense as the sophomore second baseman and is hitting .475 this season while teammate Don McKnight has a .379 average.

Miami Dade’s pitching staff is averaging 10.82 strikeouts per nine.
