BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College baseball team ended the regular season with a victory Wednesday in a Southern Conference game at Florida Southwestern.
The Titans defeated the Bucs 7-6 and won the season series 4-3 against Florida Southwestern. And it was the sophomores that came up big in their final game for the Titans.
Dalton Robinson came into the game in the ninth inning and had a 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up his first save.
The Titans jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Ryne Wallace doubled, scoring Don McKnight. Then in the fourth inning, Gino Torrente hit a home run to left center with Wilfredo Maldanado on base to give the Titans a 3-0 lead. It was Torrente’s second home run of the season.
Up 5-0, Florida Southwestern scored twice in the bottom of the fourth on a Nate Earley two-run home run. The Titans added a run in the sixth as Wallace scored on an error and another in the seventh inning when Robinson stole home.
Florida Southwestern cut the lead to 7-6 but Robinson closed it out for the Titans.
Eastern Florida State College used nine pitchers, each tossing an inning as Brady Guthrie picked up the win in relief.
Robinson had two doubles and three stolen bases while Carlos Cordero, Zach Taylor and Gabriel Cruz all had two hits in the game. The Titans had eight stolen bases in the game.
Cordero finishes the season with 27 stolen bases, one off the mark set by Dalton Robinson last season and Dylan Espinal in 2018.
The Titans finished the season 23-26 overall and 6-15 in the Southern Conference.
