BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA– Evelyn Wiseman Blow, age 101, passed away on May 11th, having lived a joyous and adventurous life in near and faraway places with family and friends.
She was the daughter of Professor Eugene Roland and Sylvia Wilson Wiseman. Evelyn was born March 24, 1922, and raised in N. Troy, NY. She graduated from Lansingburgh High School having spent her Jr. year at Robert’s College in Istanbul, Turkey.
While there she traveled extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Turkey, and Egypt, even climbing the Great Pyramids.
After high school, she attended Goucher College and became a member of the Delta Gamma sorority, the “Do-Good Sisterhood.” She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Goucher, class of 1944, and performed post-graduate work at John Hopkins in Baltimore MD.
In 1948 she married her hometown sweetheart, Lt. Col. Paul E. Blow, USAF, and traveled the world extensively with him while raising their children, Myron and Cherie.
Eventually, they settled in Deerfield Beach, FL., where Evelyn taught Oceanography and Marine Biology at Pompano Beach and Coral Springs High Schools, retiring in 1991.
A favorite pastime was scuba diving in the Keys, the Virgin Islands, and especially Bonaire in the Caribbean Netherlands. Upon retirement, she began studying art and art history, becoming a docent at Boca Raton Museum of Art.
Though she enjoyed “HER OCEAN” front condo for 35 years, she moved to Melbourne, FL, in 2008 to be closer to family.
Never idle, Evelyn lived her life loving to teach, golfing all over the world, and playing Duplicate Bridge, tennis, and anything ocean. Her mottos were, “I can, I must, and I will, “I drink upon occasion and sometimes upon no occasion,” and her favorite, “Anything in moderation.”
She never stopped regaling those around her with her exciting life experience stories, and her words of wisdom will always be remembered. The laughter and joy she brought to those around her are treasures that will never be forgotten.
For her 100th birthday party, her numerous friends and family came from all over the country to celebrate with her. One of her favorite gifts, a tagged nurse shark named Evelyn, swims the Atlantic Ocean as we speak. She will be immensely missed by all.
Besides her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother Eugene Robert “Bob” (Corrine) Wiseman.
She is survived by her brother Richard “Dick” (Vera) Wiseman; son Myron (Denise Kennedy) Blow; daughter Evelyn “Cherie” (Phil) Butson; four Grandchildren, two Great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evelyn’s ashes will be scattered off Biscayne Bay at the Neptune Society’s Atlantic underwater cemetery.
