BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – This past Friday morning, while we were all sleeping safe and sound in our beds, Deputy Christian Portocarrero was out keeping us safe by arresting David Lee Grisham on more charges than I’ve seen on my wife’s credit card statement.

It all started when Deputy Portocarrero observed a Grey Ford Ranger pickup truck on Pineda Street in Cocoa, that had previously been reported stolen to the Cocoa Police Department.

Deputy Portocarrero turned around on the stolen vehicle and observed it quickly turning into the driveway of a residence at 315 Pineda St. Grisham, the driver of the vehicle, exited the truck and fled on foot which was the second mistake he made, as in, you run from us we will hunt you down with dogs and helicopters so we can lock your butt up.

SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY: This past Friday morning, while we were all sleeping safe and sound in our beds, Deputy Christian Portocarrero above, left, was out keeping us safe by arresting David Lee Grisham, above right, on more charges than I’ve seen on my wife’s credit card statement.

So as you might imagine, our K-9 Team and S.T.A.R., our agency helicopter, tracked Grisham down as he was hiding like a little scared kitty cat under a trailer in the backyard of a residence on Bay Ave.

Grisham was taken into custody without incident and serves as a great reminder that if you run from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, you are only going to go to jail tired.

Now here is where it gets even better as shortly after being taken into custody, Grisham complained that he was having chest pains and wanted rescue called. So let me get this straight…you are tough enough to steal someone’s truck, tough enough to run from the Po-Po, and then when you get caught, you have a sudden case of “incarceritis” cause you don’t want to go to jail?

Nope, not in this county pal as we don’t care what ails you, we are still going to lock you up at “Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge” so you can’t steal anyone else’s stuff.

Even though Grisham was transported by our great partners at Brevard County Fire/Rescue to a local hospital, he was later transported on “No Bond” to the “Incarceritis Ward” at the Brevard County Jail where he can recover from his ailments with his new friends.

Grisham was booked into our lovely facility by Deputy Portocarrero for Driving While License Suspended Or Revoked as a Felony Habitual Traffic Offender, Resisting an Officer Without Violence, Possession of Cocaine, and for two Active Warrants for Violation of Probation.

In addition, he was charged by the Cocoa Police Department with Robbery with a Firearm, Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon, Grand Theft/Auto, and Improper Exhibition/Deadly Weapon.

Another great job by all of our first responders that were involved in this case and especially Deputy Portocarrero for recognizing the stolen truck and for being out on the street keeping our community safe, while we were sleeping.
