Mims Man Dies After Vehicle Strikes Him While Walking Off Passenger Bus on US-1

A 62-year-old Mims man has died after a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on US-1 on Thursday near Burkholm Road, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A 62-year-old Mims man has died after a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on US-1 on Thursday near Burkholm Road, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities say a pickup truck was traveling northbound on US-1 when he approached the intersection of Burkholm Road and US-1. Another vehicle was stopped in the outside lane of US-1 stopped behind a passenger bus when a person exiting the bus then entered the grass shoulder area. That is when a pickup truck veered right to the shoulder area to avoid a collision with the vehicle stopped behind the bus. As a result, the pickup truck ran into the pedestrian and knocking him into a street sign, says Lieutenant Tara Crescenzi of the Florida Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck is identified as a 49-year-old man from Mims. He was not injured in the crash.

The woman stopped behind the bus in her vehicle is identified as 29-year-old woman from Merritt Island. She was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
