Though the window has closed on the traditional enrollment period for selecting a health plan, it’s important for those seniors who are covered under Medicare Advantage to know they have through March 31 to make an adjustment to their plan.
Nearly 60% of all Florida residents with Medicare are enrolled in private Medicare Advantage plans, according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
That means more than 2.8 million people in the Sunshine State opt for coverage from one of these plans, which offers added benefits to what is offered through traditional Medicare coverage.
Plans change from year to year, and it seems people don’t always check to see how those changes can affect them. If your health needs have changed, this is an opportunity to make adjustments that better suit your current situation.
Each county in Florida has its own coverage details, so make sure you do your research about what options may exist for you based on your location. If you have questions, now is the time to reach out to a local health plan provider representative or check out healthcare.gov.
Of course, seniors will have plenty more options available later in the year when the broader annual enrollment period for Medicare Advantage begins in October. It’s not too early to mark your calendar now!
Choosing the right plan is critical to your wellness and financial well-being. So, if you’re already enrolled in Medicare Advantage, it is worth taking a moment now to check and ensure you have the right plan for the year ahead.
