Tropical Depression 13 Forms in Atlantic, Projected to be Major Hurricane Lee in a Few Days: NHC

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – National Hurricane Center is continuing to track a disturbance on Tuesday in the Central Atlantic that is expected to develop into a tropical storm in the next 24 hours and a major hurricane in a few days.

Showers and thunderstorms associated with the tropical depression located over the central tropical Atlantic.

Environmental conditions are conducive for further development, and a hurricane is expected to form over the next day or so while the low moves toward the west-northwest at 15 to 20 mph across the central tropical Atlantic.

The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph and this motion is expected to continue for the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph with higher gusts.The depression is forecast to be a hurricane in a couple of days and could become a major hurricane in a few days.

The system has a 100-percent chance at becoming a tropical storm in the next week and 90-percent chance in the next 48 hours.

Should this system develop into a Tropical Storm as expected it would be named ‘Lee’.
