OBITUARY: Kathryn “Kay” Motschman (nee Gowdy), 75, Passed Away From Complications of Alzheimer’s

Kathryn “Kay” Motschman (nee Gowdy), age 75, passed away Oct. 2 from complications of Alzheimer’s. She grew up in Union Pier, MI, the daughter of Marion (Thumm) and Ward Gowdy.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Kathryn “Kay” Motschman (nee Gowdy), age 75, passed away Oct. 2 from complications of Alzheimer’s. She grew up in Union Pier, MI, the daughter of Marion (Thumm) and Ward Gowdy.

After graduating from New Buffalo High School, where she played French horn in the band, she obtained a teaching degree in elementary education at Northern Michigan University.

Her first teaching job was in Bow, New Hampshire at the Pembroke school. She then lived in Holland, Michigan, Appleton, Wisconsin and Hortonville, Wisconsin where she resumed teaching while obtaining a master’s degree.

Retirement years were spent in New Hampshire and Florida. Kay is remembered for her outgoing and joyful personality, her love of children and teaching, music, gardening, fishing, and a good card game.

She was the beloved wife of Herb Motschman, mother of Kurt and Bradley Anderson, siblings to Merry Jo (Gowdy) Bolt, Alice (Gowdy) Alcorn, William Gowdy and grandmother to Sydney and Elizabeth Anderson.
