WATCH REPLAY: 11/21/2023 – Brevard County Commission Meeting
BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – District 5 Brevard County Commissioner Jason Steele was elected unanimously as Chair of the Commission for the upcoming year during Tuesday morning’s meeting in Viera.
Steele takes over from District 1 Commissioner Rita Pritchett, who was also selected unanimously as Vice Chair.
He was appointed by Governor Ron Desantis in June 2023 to fill the vacant Board of County Commission seat.
Steele filled the District 5 seat that spans across south Brevard that was left by former Commissioner Kristine Zonka, who stepped down in March. Zonka left the position after she was hired to lead the Florida Department of Health in Brevard County, which was left vacant by former health director Maria Stahl after she announced her retirement.
Before becoming Commissioner, Steele is a real estate broker for The Steele Group, which he co-founded with his brother, Val Steele, in 2008.
Steele is also the director of government affairs for Smith and Associates Law Offices in Tallahassee and Melbourne and served in the Florida House of Representatives between 1980 and 1982.
Steele is the executive producer of the television show “Political Food for Thought,” which is broadcast to 7,000,000 homes statewide. Steele, a former Brevard County Republican Party chairman, has served on numerous boards including Enterprise Florida and Space Florida.
