Cambridge Elementary Assistant Principal Arrested After 11,000 ‘Explicit and Provocative’ Text Messages With Student Discovered

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Devane Nicholi Lonard Clarke, 25, an assistant principal at Cambridge Elementary School in Cocoa and the president of the Palm Bay West Little League, has been arrested on charges of inappropriate communication with a minor after police detectives recovered more than 11,000 deleted “explicit and provocative” text messages between the suspect and the victim, which was a former student.
Last week, Palm Bay police officials provided information to Cocoa police detectives that Clarke was having an inappropriate relationship with a minor. According to police, Clarke’s Apple watch was turned in to Palm Bay police officials after it was discovered that the watch contained inappropriate images of a former student.
Cocoa police officers then went to Cambridge Elementary Scool, where they asked Clarke to relinquish his phone. Clarke complied and then went to the to the Cocoa Police Department to be questioned.
Cocoa police officials said that during questioning Clarke admitted to communicating with his former students through Messenger and Snapchat. Cocoa detectives said they recovered more than 11,000 deleted text messages between the suspect and the victim, which were “explicit and provocative,” including images of the victim “semi-nude” and in “compromising positions.”
According to police, Clarke confessed that he was involved in an inappropriate relationship with the minor student. He was then arrested and booked at the Cocoa Police Department and then taken to the Brevard County Jail, where he bonded out on Saturday.
