20-Year-Old Merritt Island Woman Dies at Crash Scene on State Road 528, Two Listed in Serious Condition

A 20-year-old Merritt Island woman died on Friday after a devastating vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer and seriously injured two men on State Road 528.

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – A 20-year-old Merritt Island woman died on Friday after a devastating vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer and seriously injured two men on State Road 528.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 5:54 p.m. when a 21-year-old man from Cocoa was traveling in a 2005 Infiniti G35 with two passengers inside the vehicle including a 21-year-old man from Cocoa and a 20-year-old woman from Merritt Island.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, as the driver was heading eastbound on State Road 528 near the State Road 3 (Courtenay Pkwy.) exit, he lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway into the path of a tractor-trailer.

The impact from the crash caused the vehicle to overturn and ejected the Merritt Island woman from the vehicle, who was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The two men from Cocoa were taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center and listed in serious condition.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash.

The crash caused significant delays for motorists during rush hour when authorities shutdown State Road 528 while they processed the crash scene and conducted their investigation.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported State Road 528 eastbound just east of Courtenay Parkway (mile marker 50) was blocked due to a fatal crash.
