Message from Sheriff Wayne Ivey

This past weekend, Deputy Joseph Batch responded to a residence regarding a burglary call where he quickly found out that the victim was a 9-year-old girl who was just about to go fishing with her brother, when she noticed that her bike had been stolen. The next day, Deputy Batch and other members of his squad showed up in full force with a brand-new bike, and as you can tell the look on her face says it all. (BCSO Image)

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – While on just about any given day, you can turn on the news or read online about all of the doom and gloom going on in the world, what you rarely see are great stories like this one about our incredible first responders, and the behind the scenes things they do to make a difference in our community.

This past weekend, Deputy Joseph Batch responded to a residence regarding a burglary call where he quickly found out that the victim was a 9-year-old girl who was just about to go fishing with her brother, when she noticed that her bike had been stolen.

As you might imagine, the little girl was very upset about her bike being taken as she shared with Deputy Batch how she had saved her own money to buy her bicycle which was why she was so upset.

With no leads at the time to find the person who would steal a bike from a 9-year-old girl, Deputy Batch went to work and contacted our team at the Sheriff’s Work Farm to find the perfect surprise for the young lady.

The next day, Deputy Batch and other members of his squad showed up in full force with a brand-new bike, and as you can tell the look on her face says it all.

I always tell people that I am surrounded by an amazing team of men and women and the actions of Deputy Batch are a perfect example of just how true that statement really is.

I could not be more proud of Deputy Batch and all of the members of our agency, who not only put their lives on the line each and every day to keep this community safe, but also go the extra mile in moments like this, not because they have to, but because they want to.

Now that right there folks is “The Good Stuff!!”
