BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Graduate middle blocker Chiara Patelli from Florida Tech volleyball has been named the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her contribution to the Panthers’ victories over No. 17 Lynn and Palm Beach Atlantic.
This is Patelli’s first SSC Player of the Week honor this season and for her career. It’s the first offensive accolade for Florida Tech volleyball since Milica Tapuskovia in 2013.
Patelli recorded 26 kills and a .523 hitting percentage for the week. She also helped the defensive end, tallying 11 blocks and three digs.
The Brescia, Italy native was almost unstoppable in the Panthers’ upset over the 17th-ranked Lynn. Patelli mashed a team-leading 17 kills and 27 attempts without an error for a .630 hitting percentage. The percentage marked the sixth-best in a match by a Panther all-time.
The Panthers’ win over Lynn was the first time they had defeated the Fighting Knights since the 2017 season, and it was the first win at home over Lynn since 2015. It marks Florida Tech’s first win over a top-20 opponent since November 10, 2015, against #17 Florida Southern.
She strung another outstanding performance the next day in a sweep over Palm Beach Atlantic. Patelli totaled nine kills, a .353 hitting percentage, and an assist. Her final kill sealed the victory in the third set.
Tech’s match against Rollins was postponed, so they will play at Barry next on Saturday, October 12, starting at 4 p.m.
