POLICE: Motorcyclist Killed Sunday in Crash After Failing Negotiate Curve Near Melbourne Avenue and Melbourne Court

A motorcyclist was killed Sunday after failing to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and went airborne, according to Melbourne Police Sgt. Benjamin Slover. The operator of the motorcycle was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased a few hours later. 

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A motorcyclist was killed Sunday after failing to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and went airborne, according to Melbourne Police Sgt. Benjamin Slover.

“On Saturday, October 12, 2024, Melbourne police officers responded to the area of Melbourne Avenue and Melbourne Court regarding a motorcycle crash involving a 2005 Honda motorcycle,” said Sgt. Slover.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the operator and passenger of the motorcycle had sustained critical injuries because of this crash.

“Initial investigation reveals the motorcycle was traveling east on Melbourne Avenue, when the operator failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and both the motorcycle and the passengers went airborne,” said Sgt. Slover.

The operator of the motorcycle was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased a few hours later.

Sgt. Slover said it does not appear the operator was wearing a helmet and it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs are a factor in this crash.

The crash is still under investigation.
