The Best Cities to Visit in Texas

By  //  November 1, 2024

Texas is a massive state whose culture and beauty often go underappreciated or even ignored by their fellow Americans.

The only exception to this rule is the unique city of Austin, whose tagline is, “Keep Austin Weird.” While the culture of Austin is absolutely something to appreciate and explore, there’s more to this southern state than this one city.

From Fort Worth’s cultural and historical significance to the landmarks and gardens of Dallas, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in Texas. It makes for a great reprieve from the stress of work, everyday life, and understanding the essential steps for calculating non-economic damages

Texas’ Greatest Cities

To kick off this journey across the Lonestar State, we’ll start by discovering a somewhat hidden gem: Fort Worth, Texas.

Fort Worth

If you’ve never heard of Fort Worth then you’ll be shocked by just how much there is here in the way of culture.

Of course, to understand culture, one must first understand and explore history. This is easy since there are many historical museums to choose from, such as the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History and the many airline museums. Basically, if you love history, planes or cowboys, you’ll love this city’s historical museums.

But wait, that’s not all! Art lovers will enjoy a completely different side of Fort Worth as there are six different art museums and a ton of art galleries to peruse at your leisure. The Amon Carter Museum of American Art and the Kimbell Art Museum come to mind as stand-outs.

And, of course, those who prefer architectural pieces will be mesmerized by the Fort Worth Water Gardens. If you enjoy museums and the beauty or history held within, stop by Fort Worth sometime.

Austin

There’s a lot to love about Austin, Texas. There’s constant music performances, many museums and so much more.

A great museum for those who want to stay in line with the city’s motto of “Keep Austin Weird” is the Museum of the Weird. You can see the famous Feejee mermaid, skeletal pirates, a jackalope head and so many more bizarre and intriguing things.

If that’s a little bit too weird for you, no worries. There’s lots more to enjoy, such as golfing at Holey Moley or the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, not to mention the various restaurants, bars and more. Even if weird isn’t your style you’ll enjoy Austin, Texas.

San Antonio

San Antonio may not be the Texas first city that comes to mind but it shouldn’t be overlooked; there’s so much to love here. Hopscotch, for example.

No, this does not refer to the game you may have played on the playground with your friends. This Hopscotch is an art gallery whose expeditions change every now and then to give a spotlight to as many artists as possible. Each visit will showcase a unique beauty from so many unique minds, and should always be a top-priority stop.

History buffs will be delighted to take a trip to the Alamo. It was the center of the minds and hearts of those who bravely fought in the Texas Revolution. It was the site of 200 hundred men holding off 2,500 for 13 days straight.

You can follow up the history lessons with a stroll in the gardens to think about the stories of those doomed men and enjoy the modern beauty they helped ensure you and thousands of others would be able to appreciate.

Little ones will be delighted to discover the wonders of the DoSeum Children’s Museum. From the Force Course, which teaches about force and motion to the Imagine It exhibit which explores the various forms of storytelling, there’s a lot to learn and love in this museum. The Big Outdoors is a great place for children to make friends , play and enjoy the native plants.

However, it isn’t all about excitement. If you or your children get overwhelmed or simply need a quiet spot for any reason, then you’ll appreciate the Calm Corner. There is a lot more to San Antonio than these attractions, but they should give you an idea of what to expect about this often forgotten city.

Houston

If you’ve considered visiting any Texas cities, then Dallas and Houston were probably at the top of the list. They aren’t bad choices at all. Houston in particular has many things you simply can’t find elsewhere. Take Geronimo Adventure Park for example. You can explore fairy gardens before throwing axes or enjoying a zipline ride.

Those who love a good thrill will absolutely love Geronimo but if that’s not you then maybe you’d enjoy one of the many other stops, like Artechouse Houston. Leave reality behind as you step through the doors and are immersed in digital art.

The goal is to encourage you to look at the world around you with a new perspective and see the beauty you may have missed otherwise. Just try not to get too lost in the beauty right in front of you!

Dallas

No list of must-see Texas cities would be complete without mentioning Dallas, Texas. There’s a good chance this is the city that comes to mind when you think of the state and it’s easy to see why. Even just seeing its skyscrapers and the Reunion Tower is enough to entice one to stop by, especially if seen at night.

A great first-stop is the Dallas Zoo because nothing beats seeing the various animals from around the world up-close. If you’re lucky, you may get to feed the giraffes or hear about some animals from their keepers. Another great stop is the Dallas Aquarium where you’ll get to see ocean creatures up close and admire the beauty of the deep.

Those who love learning about plants should explore the Dallas Arboretum or one of the many parks, and museum lovers will be delighted by the local Dallas Museum of Nature and Science and the Museum of Art—and we can’t forget the Opera House or the Meyerson Symphony Center.

No matter who you are or what you like, both Dallas and Texas as a whole have a lot for you to explore and enjoy.
