BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA — Starlink is providing 1 month of free service to those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires or supporting response and recovery efforts. Free Starlink kits are also being distributed to agencies, organizations, and shelters in the impacted areas.
In response to the devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles County, Starlink, the satellite internet service developed by SpaceX, has announced an initiative to provide one month of free service to individuals and organizations affected by the disaster. This effort is aimed at ensuring that those impacted by the fires and those actively engaged in response and recovery efforts can maintain vital connectivity.
The offer extends not only to residents who have lost internet access due to fire damage but also to first responders, disaster relief agencies, and community shelters. Starlink is also distributing free hardware kits to facilitate internet access in areas where infrastructure has been compromised.
“Connectivity is critical during emergencies,” a Starlink spokesperson said in a statement. “Whether it’s coordinating rescue operations, staying in touch with loved ones, or accessing critical information, we want to ensure that no one is left offline during this challenging time.”
Wildfires have caused widespread damage across Los Angeles, displacing thousands of residents and overwhelming emergency services. Traditional communication networks, including cell towers and broadband infrastructure, have been heavily affected in some areas, leaving many without reliable internet access. Starlink’s satellite-based system bypasses these damaged ground networks, offering a lifeline to those in need.

Relief organizations have praised the initiative, noting that stable and reliable internet access is vital for coordinating resources and disseminating information to affected communities.
“In the chaos of disaster response, having reliable internet can make all the difference,” said Emily Tran, a coordinator for a local relief agency. “Starlink’s support is invaluable as we work to provide aid and resources to those in need.”
Residents and organizations impacted by the wildfires can apply for the free Starlink service through the company’s website. Starlink has pledged to expedite the delivery of kits and prioritize areas with the greatest need. The company has also stated that it will evaluate the situation at the end of the month to determine whether additional support is necessary.
This is not the first time Starlink has stepped in to provide emergency connectivity. The service has previously been deployed in disaster-stricken areas around the world, demonstrating its potential to bridge the digital divide during crises. By offering free internet service and equipment, Starlink is once again highlighting the role of technology in disaster response and recovery efforts.
