BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A 76-year-old man from Cocoa lost his life Saturday night after his van crashed into multiple objects, including a parked car and a house, according to a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson.

The accident happened around 10:50 p.m. on Fay Boulevard near Deer Lane in Port St. John.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the man was driving west when he veered off the roadway for reasons still under investigation. His vehicle then hit a mailbox and a speed limit sign before continuing southwest, striking another mailbox.

The van then swerved to the right, colliding with a lattice fence, a 2007 Chevy Impala parked in a driveway, and ultimately crashing into a house. According to troopers, the vehicle came to a stop in the driveway.

Emergency responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Investigators suspect he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Two people were inside the home during the incident but were not injured. However, the impact caused the garage door to strike two additional parked vehicles.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
