71-Year-Old Electric Bicyclist from Satellite Beach Killed in Collision on A1A in Indian Harbour Beach

A 71-year-old man from Satellite Beach was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle while riding an electric bicycle on State Road A1A near Berkeley Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

BREVARD COUNTY • INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH, FLORIDA — A 71-year-old man from Satellite Beach was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle while riding an electric bicycle on State Road A1A near Berkeley Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 6:03 p.m. on October 30.

Troopers said the bicyclist was traveling eastbound from the sidewalk across the southbound lanes of A1A when he entered the path of a 2001 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 61-year-old man from Indian Harbour Beach.

The front of the Jeep struck the bicyclist, troopers reported.

The driver was not injured and remained at the scene. The bicyclist was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to FHP, the victim was not wearing a helmet. His next of kin had not yet been notified as of Thursday evening.

The crash remains under investigation.
