BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Severe Weather Awareness Week kicks off February 3 and runs through February 7.
This important week is dedicated to educating residents about the various weather hazards that can impact the Sunshine State and how to stay safe when severe weather strikes.
Each day of the week will focus on a different weather threat, including lightning, hurricanes, floods, and extreme temperatures. The National Weather Service shares essential safety information, preparedness tips, and ways to protect yourself and your loved ones from dangerous weather conditions.
One of the key events during this week is the Statewide Tornado Drill on Wednesday, February 5, from 10 – 10:30 a.m. Schools, businesses, and households across the state are encouraged to participate by practicing their tornado safety plans.
This drill is an excellent opportunity to ensure everyone knows the safest place to go during a tornado and what actions to take to minimize risk.
Severe weather can happen anytime; being prepared is the best way to stay safe. Follow updates from the National Weather Service Melbourne and local emergency management agencies for essential alerts and preparedness tips throughout the week.
Let’s work together to build a weather-ready Florida. Stay safe and informed.
