Merritt Island Fest is set for June 6-7

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Landon McNamara the famed surfer yawns at waves on a scale some people will never see. Landon McNamara is a beloved surfer and musician but who is he, really? Who is he behind the wall of fame and fortune?
From a Hawaiian surf shack open mic to sold-out concerts, McNamara has a successful music career. McNamara began in a community space, not an industry recording booth.
He gave the impression he played, not for fame and fortune but for the love of the music and art. His career grew out of place and culture, not strategy.
McNamara shared that there was no ‘worst gig.’ Because every gig has something to offer. It’s clear he doesn’t see experiences as failure, just opportunities.

Landon McNamara is not just a musician — he is a professional surfer. Behind the awards and accolades, he’s nervous just like anyone. However, he treats his nerves as something to manage, not fight.
McNamara often yawns before he rides the waves. He explained it’s a natural bodily response to calm nerves. “I looked it up,” he said, cheerfully.
McNamara noted he’s not particularly compulsive about anything. He is not ruled by fear. Between his music and surfing career, he finds peace in a storm of intensity. In fact, McNamara took time out of his busy schedule to sit down for an early morning interview.
McNamara is going to visit Florida where he will be performing at the Merritt Island Fest on June 6. Interested in the Space program, he “looks forward to all that you do.”
So, who is Landon McNamara? Landon McNamara has a sense of who he is and he’s happy. Landon McNamara is a man whose idea of fulfillment is relational, not performative. A day off for him looks like dinner with his family and playing some music.
Landon McNamara does what he loves, but more than that, he’s human. He has a family he loves, he values happiness and self care. When asked if he could have anyone’s life, real or fictional, he replied, “mine.”
