POLL: New Harvard Poll Shows Majority Americans Support President Donald Trump

81% support deporting criminal illegal immigrants
WASHINGTON D.C. – A newly released Harvard CAPS-Harris poll indicates that a majority of Americans back President Donald J. Trump and his efforts to implement reforms aimed at strengthening the country.
The poll reveals widespread support for key aspects of President Trump’s agenda, including immigration enforcement, government efficiency, and economic policies.
Strong Support for President Trump’s Agenda
According to the poll, Americans overwhelmingly endorse several policy initiatives championed by President Trump:
- 81% support deporting criminal illegal immigrants.
- 76% favor a comprehensive effort to eliminate fraud and waste in government.
- 76% support strengthening border security and enforcing stricter immigration policies.
- 69% believe men should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports.
- 68% agree that the government should recognize only two genders.
- 65% support ending race-based hiring in government.
- 63% advocate for freezing and reassessing all foreign aid expenditures.
- 61% back reciprocal tariffs on international trade.
- 60% favor direct negotiations between the U.S. and Russia to end the war in Ukraine.
- 59% support reducing government spending previously approved by Congress.
- 57% endorse lifting the ban on new offshore drilling.
Public Approval of President Trump’s Performance
President Trump’s job performance continues to receive positive ratings from a broad spectrum of voters, including men, women, independents, and residents of urban, suburban, and rural communities.
The poll finds that nearly six in ten Americans believe President Trump is doing a better job than President Joe Biden.
Economic confidence under President Trump has also surged, with nearly half of Americans describing the U.S. economy as “strong” — the highest rating since 2021. Additionally, a plurality of respondents believe Trump’s policies will improve their financial well-being.
Optimism regarding the nation’s direction has also increased, with a 14-point jump in those who believe the country is on the right track compared to last month.
Support for Government Reform and Efficiency
Americans overwhelmingly back President Trump’s initiative to eliminate waste, fraud, and inefficiency in government:
- 77% support a full examination of all government expenditures.
- 72% agree on the need for a government agency focused on efficiency.
- 70% believe the government is filled with waste and inefficiency.
- Two-thirds say Congress should join efforts to reduce government spending.
Backing for Policies to Protect American Workers
The poll highlights strong support for President Trump’s economic policies, particularly in relation to trade and tariffs:
- 61% endorse reciprocal tariffs.
- 57% believe tariffs are an effective tool for foreign and economic policy.
- 54% say tariffs help secure concessions from other countries.
High Favorability for Key Administration Officials
In addition to President Trump, several key figures in his administration also enjoy net positive favorability, including:
- Vice President JD Vance
- Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
- Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard
- Attorney General Pam Bondi
