Enjoy A Night at the Opera: Brevard Chorale to Perform Beloved Opera Choruses in Titusville and Cocoa

Brevardians will have two opportunities to hear the Brevard Chorale. On Monday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m., the group will perform A Night at the Opera at the Simpkins Fine Arts Auditorium at Eastern Florida State College, 1519 Clearlake Road in Cocoa.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA—Brevardians will have two opportunities to hear the Brevard Chorale. On Monday, April 21, at 7:30 p.m., the group will perform A Night at the Opera at the Simpkins Fine Arts Auditorium at Eastern Florida State College, 1519 Clearlake Road in Cocoa. 

Justin Walker and the mixed voices of the Brevard Chorale are just getting warmed up! After their recent high-energy concert at the King Center with the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, the group is charging ahead with A Night at the Opera, a concert of beloved opera choruses.

$10 tickets for adults and seniors, and $5 tickets for students with ID can be purchased at the door or online at EFSC.booktix.com.

On Wednesday, April 23, at 7 p.m., the Chorale will reprise A Night at the Opera at First United Methodist Church of Titusville, at 206 S. Hopkins Avenue.

The Titusville concert is free of charge, and donations are welcome.

The audience can expect to hear choruses from some of the world’s most famous operas. Selections include choral arrangements and excerpts from Leonard Bernstein’s Candide, Puccini’s Madame Butterfly, and Rossini’s Guillaume Tell.

Choral works by composers Verdi and Borodin are also on the program. Pianist Jean Black will accompany the Chorus during both concerts, under the direction of Justin Walker, Conductor.

The Brevard Chorale is an all-volunteer group of mixed-voice adults from Central and North Brevard who enjoy singing quality choral music. Justin Walker, the group’s Artistic Director and Conductor, knows the music from A Night at the Opera will be recognizable to music lovers everywhere.

“The selections for this concert couldn’t be more exciting,” said Walker. “It’s a musical celebration of opera, with choruses from composers like Verdi, Puccini, Rossini, Leonard Berstein and more. Bravissimo!”

The Brevard Chorale was founded in 1966 by Dr. Tom Whiteside. It has brought people of every age, life experience, and vocal background together to sing for the pure joy of participating in great choral music.

The Chorale is one of two community choruses sponsored by the Department of Performing and Visual Arts at Eastern Florida State College. Under the direction of Justin Walker, the 50-voice Chorale is a mixed-voice group of choral singers ranging in age from 16 to senior adults. The group is open to all residents of Brevard County.

The Chorale has enjoyed several tours abroad, most recently in Scandinavia, and has performed twice at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Justin Walker is the conductor and artistic director of the Brevard Chorale. Mr. Walker earned his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Louisville and his Bachelor of Music Performance in Voice from the University of North Florida.

He studied conducting under Dr. Kent Hatteberg, and performed with the University of Louisville Cardinal Singers and the Louisville Chamber Choir under Hatteberg’s direction. His conducting experience includes performances with the University of Louisville Collegiate Chorale and University Chorus, the University of North Florida Chamber Singers and Osprey Men’s Chorus, and the Chamber Orchestra and Community Orchestra at Eastern Florida State College.
