BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA —The Florida Department of Health in Brevard County is notifying individuals who received medical care at Lily J. Voepel, MD, Interventional Pain Management, located at 4015 N. Harbor City Boulevard in Melbourne, between June 2023 and March 2025 regarding unsafe infection control practices that may have occurred during their medical care.
According to Brevard Health Department officials, following a recent review of the facility’s practices, it was determined that proper infection control measures may not have been followed during medical care.
“The Department is taking proactive steps to ensure affected individuals are informed and can take appropriate action,” said a Brevard Health Department official.
The Department advises all patients who received medical care at this facility to undergo testing for the hepatitis C virus (HCV), a treatable bloodborne disease. Hepatitis C often has no symptoms in its early stages, so testing is important for early detection. However, if left untreated, the virus can cause serious complications, including liver damage and liver cancer.
Treatment options are available for individuals who do test positive.
The Department is also strongly advising patients to talk to their health care provider about the need for testing for other bloodborne diseases, such as HIV and hepatitis B. It is extremely important to get tested as soon as possible.
