BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Amazon is preparing for the debut launch of its Project Kuiper initiative, using a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket to send the first satellites of its low Earth orbit (LEO) broadband network into space. Project Kuiper aims to deliver high-speed, reliable internet service globally, with a focus on connecting unserved and underserved areas through a constellation of over 3,200 LEO satellites.
The launch is scheduled for April 9, with a window between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. EDT, from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.
The mission will lift off from Space Launch Complex-41 using an Atlas V 551 rocket, which features five solid rocket boosters and a medium-length payload fairing. This flight will carry multiple Kuiper satellites into orbit.
This launch marks a significant milestone for both Amazon and the broader commercial space industry.
As part of the largest commercial launch agreement to date, Amazon will rely on ULA to deploy the majority of its satellite network, utilizing eight Atlas V launches along with 38 flights aboard ULA’s next-generation Vulcan rockets.
