SHERIFF IVEY: over 50 rounds were fired from all different directions
ABOVE, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey reports from the scene of a shooting in which an infant was injured. Below is a transcription of Sheriff Ivey’s video report.
Hello everyone, I’m Sheriff Wayne Ivey of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, and right now I’m on scene at just an unbelievable shooting that took place here earlier this afternoon. It’s off of Burnett Road in West Cocoa, and I’m going to try and give you the information we have.
Right now, we have a very fluid scene, as you can see. Our crime scene folks are behind me, but what we know is that about 1:23 p.m. this afternoon, a female and male subject went into the meat store behind me.
They had a baby in a stroller. In fact, if you look over by the phone booth, you can see the stroller is still sitting there. They went into the store.
As they come out of the store, a black Mercedes had backed into the parking lot a little bit further south. Three individuals had gotten out of the black Mercedes, and at about 1:26 in the afternoon, the two subjects came out of the store pushing the baby stroller. The three subjects engaged them.
We’re not exactly sure at this point who fired first. Our team is still working on that. Thankfully, we have great security footage that will narrow that down for us, but as the shooting started to take place, over 50 rounds were fired, or right at 50 rounds were fired from all different directions.
One of those rounds struck the two-year-old female baby in the pelvic area. Thankfully, the baby is in stable condition at this time. Surgeons are working with the baby.
Our prayers are obviously with the family on this situation. What we know is the subjects exchanged gunfire. It’s apparently over some type of ongoing feud they’re having.
We don’t know what it’s related to. Our agents will determine that as things go. Right now, we have the male subject that came out of the store.
That was one of the shooters. We have him in our custody. We are looking for the other three subjects.

All four of them are shooting back and forth at each other, not only putting the baby at risk, but also others who are in the area around. The parking lot was packed at the time. These individuals are out here acting like clowns, shooting at each other over what?
Who knows what the situation is? What we do know is that, thankfully, the baby is in stable condition.
Unbelievable to me that individuals would be out here shooting at each other in the first place, but then to put a baby in the middle of all of that is just unbelievable. So our team, as you can see, is continuing to work this. They’re marking off all of the different pieces of evidence.
There’s a magazine here, almost 50 rounds that are on the pavement.
So these individuals were going at it, and in the middle of it is a baby. So we need to lock these individuals up.
They need to be put behind bars where they can’t pull this stunt again. So we need your help. Go to Crimeline.
