WATCH: SpaceX Successfully Launches Falcon 9 Rocket Carrying GPS III-7 Mission from Cape Canaveral
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – SpaceX successfully launched the GPS III-7 satellite aboard a Falcon 9 rocket on Friday, May 30 at 1:37 p.m. ET, marking another step forward in the modernization of the U.S. Global Positioning System.
The launch took place from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, sending the advanced satellite into medium-Earth orbit. GPS III-7 is part of a new generation of navigation satellites developed to improve accuracy, anti-jamming capabilities, and overall resilience for both military and civilian users.
The mission featured a previously flown first-stage booster, making its fourth flight. The booster had previously supported missions including CRS-32, NROL-69, and a Starlink launch. Following stage separation, the booster successfully landed, continuing SpaceX’s trend of reusability.
GPS III-7 is the latest addition to the U.S. Space Force’s fleet of next-generation GPS satellites, which are built by Lockheed Martin and offer enhanced capabilities over their predecessors.
These satellites play a crucial role in everything from smartphone navigation to military operations worldwide.
The launch underscores SpaceX’s ongoing partnership with the Department of Defense and the Space Force in advancing national space infrastructure.
