Green Turtle Cay, Abaco — Medfast Urgent Care took a major step toward strengthening emergency medical readiness on Green Turtle Cay with a generous donation of critical life-saving equipment to the island’s Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.

On Tuesday, Dr. David T. Williams, DO, FACEP, FAAEM, representing Medfast Urgent Care, presented the department with two Automatic External Defibrillators (AEDs) and two fully stocked emergency medical bags to support rapid medical response across the island.

The donation was made during a community gathering in which Emergency Chief Matthew Lowe accepted the equipment on behalf of the department.

The new AEDs and medical bags will be placed at strategic locations around the island to ensure that residents and visitors have faster access to life-saving tools in the event of a cardiac emergency or other medical crisis.

Since the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian in 2019, Green Turtle Cay’s small, volunteer-run emergency response department has struggled with limited resources.

Since the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian in 2019, Green Turtle Cay’s small, volunteer-run emergency response department has struggled with limited resources.

Much of their essential medical equipment—including AEDs—was lost during the storm, leaving the team stretched thin as they worked to rebuild capacity over the past several years. Medfast’s donation marks a meaningful step toward restoring the department’s full emergency response capabilities.

During the visit, Dr. Williams also conducted a brief informal educational session covering AED placement, operation, and basic maintenance, ensuring that local responders are equipped with the knowledge needed to deploy the devices effectively and confidently.

Medfast Urgent Care and Dr. Williams expressed gratitude for the tireless work of the Green Turtle Cay Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and encouraged the public to support the island’s emergency services.

They further request that any agencies, organizations, or individuals wishing to donate medical supplies or equipment contact Emergency Chief Matthew Lowe directly, as ongoing support remains vital to the department’s mission of keeping the community safe.
