Healing is possible

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — The Palm Bay Police Department reminds the community that June is National PTSD Awareness Month: a time to acknowledge trauma’s unseen wounds and affirm that healing is possible.
PTSD has a profound impact on the nervous system.
Individuals working through traumatic stress may be experiencing overactive fight or flight responses, dysregulated stress hormones, chronic inflammation, sleep disturbances, headaches, dizziness, muscle pain, digestive issues, and immune system suppression due to prolonged dysregulation.
PTSD is not just in your head. PTSD is a whole-body experience.
Healing is possible through mental health and medical interventions such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, TMS, and/or medication-assisted treatment when necessary.

There is no one way to healing, and incorporating skills and practices such as yoga, meditation, gratitude journaling, massage, and chiropractic care can also be beneficial for many individuals on their healing journey.
Let your community honor every survivor’s journey, break the silence, stand together, and ensure no one walks alone.
