Viera Wrestlers Emma Hoppe and Isabel Alvarez Sign With University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown

University of Pittsburgh's first women's wrestling season in program history

Viera High School Class of 2025 graduates Emma Hoppe and Isabel Alvarez will continue their academic and athletic careers at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ) in Johnstown, PA.

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Viera High School Class of 2025 graduates Emma Hoppe and Isabel Alvarez will continue their academic and athletic careers at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown (UPJ) in Johnstown, PA.

Viera’s top two lady wrestlers are headed to college together to continue their wrestling careers, as Hoppe and Alvarez will be competing for the UPJ Mountain Cats Women’s Wrestling team in the NCAA Division II.

This season at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown will be historical for Alvarez and Hoppe, as this is the University’s first women’s wrestling season in program history. As incoming freshmen, both wrestlers’ names will be etched into the record books.

Isabel Alvarez was a two-time conference champion, two-time district champion, regional champion, state placer (5th), and placed 7th at the National High School Coaches Association Senior Nationals, earning All-American status.

In her high school career, Emma Hoppe was a three-time Conference champion, three-time District champion, two-time Regional champion, three-time State placer, and this past year, 2025 State Champion.

Hoppe also placed 5th at the National High School Coaches Association Senior Nationals, earning All-American status and becoming the No. 25-ranked girls’ high school wrestler in the country, according to USA Wrestling, the governing body and publication of the U.S. Olympic Team.

The Viera High School Wrestling Program and the Viera Community look forward to celebrating their continued success both on and off the mat.
