BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA — Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey is well known for his heart for animals.
After attempts failed to find a forever home for Jessi, a lovable canine who lived more than 450 days at the Sheriff’s Animal Care Center Shelter, Ivey found another solution that is sure to touch many hearts.
Sheriff Ivey put out a public request seeking an adoption family for Jessi, saying Jessi is great with people and other dogs, loves to play, loves stuffed animals, and walks well on a leash, but does not like cats. “Jessi will make someone a wonderful pet. We need to find her a forever home,” Sheriff Ivey said.
Rather than leave her there, Sheriff Ivey decided to make Jessi the official pet of the Sheriff’s Inmate Work Farm in Cocoa, where she will be cared for by the staff and inmates, who will visit the facility daily.
Jessi now has free range space, plenty of people to love, and the opportunity to tag along for all farm duties. This subtle act of heroism enriches Jessi, the Sheriff, and all who participate on the farm.

Adoptions are free at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Animal Care Center and include a microchip and more. Yet no one was able to fit her into their family, leaving her to stay at the Animal Care Center even longer.
Through the incredible partnerships with local business members, Boniface Heirs, Glover Orndorf & Flanagan Wealth Management, and ATH Trailer Sales and Repairs, their donations to the Sheriff’s Pet Posse allow BCSO to proudly offer free adoptions for any pet at the Animal Care Center.
