BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA — Keep Brevard Beautiful’s Executive Director John Nico was the Guest Speaker at the recent Port Canaveral Propeller Club monthly meeting.

Nico took the helm at KBB in January 2024, bringing to the role his experience as an urban planner and as Supervisor of Public Programs at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.

He provided an update to the club on the positive impact of KBB’s programs and contracts, as well as his goals to improve and build on the organization’s success.

Nico highlighted the major areas of KBB’s work, including the Adopt an Area program, Countywide Annual Cleanups, Hot Spot Volunteer Cleanups, Education Outreach, and the organization’s contract work.

KBB’s main revenues come from contracts with Brevard County and the Canaveral Port Authority and include cleaning up all of the county’s causeways except for the NASA causeway.

Nico said that volunteers are the backbone of KBB efforts and praised the passion many in the community bring to the cleanups. He hopes to increase the amount of volunteers, cleanups, and education outreach in the schools, especially at the high school level.

During the meeting, Nico thanked the Canaveral Port Authority and the Propeller Club for their support and commitment to working with KBB.

The Propeller Club has a longstanding relationship with KBB that began in the early years of the club’s founding, including participation in the Adopt an Area program and working with the Port Authority on countywide and area cleanups.

Former KBB Executive Director Bryan Bobbitt served a term as Propeller Club President, and former KBB Executive Director Larry Weber was in attendance at the luncheon and was recognized by Port Environmental Director Bob Musser.

It was noted that Weber had a significant impact on KBB upon its founding in 1981, helping to build it into what John called one of the biggest affiliates in the state.

Members of the Propeller Club’s cleanup team were recognized following Nico’s presentation and were invited to join him for a group photo. The club’s Cleanup Chair Mike Bracic said the club is always looking for more volunteers to join our team for future cleanups.

The Propeller Club is a business network dedicated to the promotion of the maritime industry, commerce, and global trade.
