Turning Point USA has appointed Erika Kirk, widow of the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk, as its new chief executive officer and board chair, the organization announced on Thursday.

The unanimous decision by the board comes just over a week after Charlie Kirk, 31, was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University during his “American Comeback” tour.

In a joint statement, board members Doug De Groote, Mike Miller, Tom Sodeika, and David Engelhardt described the transition as both a moment of grief and determination.

“All of us at Turning Point USA have a role in carrying Charlie’s vision forward—strengthening faith, protecting freedom, and ensuring prosperity for future generations,” the statement read.

They also reaffirmed the group’s mission with one of Kirk’s signature phrases: “We have a country to save.”

Founded in 2012, Turning Point USA has grown into one of the nation’s most influential conservative youth organizations. Erika Kirk, who has been involved in advocacy and faith-based initiatives, will now take the reins as the group faces both mourning and renewal.

Kirk is survived by Erika and their two young children. His funeral is scheduled for Sept. 21.
