BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is currently monitoring multiple systems across the Atlantic Basin, including Post-Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle, Tropical Storm Humberto, and a developing disturbance in the southwestern Atlantic.

The most immediate development is occurring near Hispaniola and the Turks and Caicos Islands, where showers and thunderstorms associated with a tropical wave are showing signs of organization.

The NHC reports that an area of low pressure is likely to form along this wave tonight or early Friday as it nears the southeast Bahamas.

Forecasters say the system is expected to strengthen into a tropical depression late Friday or over the weekend as it tracks northwestward or northward through the southwestern Atlantic.

Regardless of development, the system is forecast to bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds across Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos, and the Bahamas in the coming days.

There is growing concern that this disturbance could eventually impact parts of the southeastern United States. While its long-range track and intensity remain uncertain, the NHC has raised formation odds to a high 80 percent over the next 48 hours and 90 percent within seven days.

Officials urge residents in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, the Bahamas, and along the U.S. southeast coast to closely monitor updates on this system as conditions evolve.
