BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Beginning Thursday, Oct. 30, residents in several of the hardest hit areas of Brevard County will have access to free flood-clean-up kits provided through a partnership between The Salvation Army and Brevard libraries.

The kits are intended to help homeowners and renters clean and disinfect their properties following recent flooding in the region.

The kits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis (while supplies last) at the following public library locations during their regular operating hours:

■ Mims/Scottsmoor Public Library, 3615 Lionel Road, Mims (closed Sundays)
■ Titusville Public Library, 2121 S Hopkins Avenue, Titusville
■ Port St. John Public Library, 6500 Carole Avenue, Cocoa
■ Merritt Island Public Library, 1195 N Courtney Parkway, Merritt Island (closed Sundays)

Each kit includes a 5-gallon bucket, 14-inch broom, 14-inch squeegee, mop head, brushes, sponge, work gloves, rubber gloves, a mask, heavy-duty garbage bags, and liquid cleaner—tools specifically selected to help clean and disinfect interiors and exteriors of homes affected by inundation from flood or hurricane events.

Why the Distribution is Needed

Recent weather events have battered parts of Brevard County with exceptionally heavy rainfall and flooding. In one event, parts of Brevard recorded more than 14 inches of rain in a short time span, contributing to submerged streets and water intrusion into homes.

One report noted that the cities of Titusville and Port St. John were among the areas recording more than 14 inches of rainfall.

Local officials emphasise that timely cleanup is important to prevent secondary damage like mold growth, structural damage and health hazards from standing water.

What Residents Should Know Before Picking Up a Kit

Only one kit per household is expected; availability is subject to supply.

The kits provide clean-up supplies; they do not cover repair services, evacuation, or significant structural remediation. Residents with heavy damage should still contact the Brevard County Emergency Management or visit the county’s Storm Center website for further assistance.

Even if a house looks superficially intact, flood-soaked materials (drywall, insulation, flooring) may need professional assessment—these kits help at the early cleaning stage. Still, they are not a substitute for professional guidance.
