Merritt Island High School AFEX Students Take Flight with Visit to Florida Tech’s College of Aviation

The future of aerospace exploration took a bold step forward as 47 students from Merritt Island High School’s Astronautics and Flight Exploration (AFEX) program, along with 11 students from Jefferson Middle School, visited the Florida Institute of Technology’s College of Aviation Flight Line.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The future of aerospace exploration took a bold step forward as 47 students from Merritt Island High School’s Astronautics and Flight Exploration (AFEX) program, along with 11 students from Jefferson Middle School, visited the Florida Institute of Technology’s College of Aviation Flight Line.

The visit offered students a hands-on experience in the world of aviation. From touring state-of-the-art facilities to stepping inside aircraft simulators, the day was packed with opportunities to explore the equipment, technology, and expertise that fuel modern aviation.

Students engaged directly with FIT faculty and students, learning about aircraft types, flight systems, and the path to careers in aerospace and aviation.

The experience also served as an eye-opening introduction to future college and career possibilities, especially for the Jefferson Middle School students—many of whom may be future members of the AFEX program at MIHS.
