POLICE: Hotel Employee Fights Off Attacker; Andreous Moon Jr. Arrested Hours Later

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA — A Merritt Island man has been arrested and jailed without bond after Cocoa Beach police say he broke into a hotel room and attempted to sexually assault a hotel employee while she was working.
According to the Cocoa Beach Police Department, officers were called to Beachside Hotel & Suites, located at 3901 North Atlantic Avenue, at approximately 11:37 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, following a report of a burglary and battery.
Detectives responded to the scene and interviewed the victim and a witness.
During the investigation, officers determined the suspect’s description matched a man who had been the subject of prior suspicious behavior reports at other local businesses.
The suspect was later identified as Andreous Moon Jr., 31, of Merritt Island.
Police allege Moon forced his way into a hotel room while the victim was inside performing cleaning duties. Investigators say that once inside the room, Moon closed the door behind him, physically battered the victim, pulled down his pants, and attempted to force her to perform sexual acts.

Authorities say the victim fought back and was able to escape the attack and seek help. Moon then fled the scene, according to investigators.
Following interviews and evidence gathered in the case, detectives developed probable cause and obtained an arrest warrant for Moon. He was located just after midnight on Friday, December 5, at about 12:23 a.m. at a local adult establishment, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Moon is charged with burglary with a battery, attempted sexual battery, and false imprisonment. He was transported to the Brevard County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
Officials did not release the victim’s name, citing privacy and safety concerns.
Police say the investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information related to the case is asked to contact the Cocoa Beach Police Department at 321-868-3251.
