Fatal Shooting victim identified as 58-year-old Ricardo Rodriguez of Melbourne

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — One man is dead, and another is hospitalized following a shooting early Monday morning at the Summerset Apartments in Melbourne, according to the Melbourne Police Department.
A Melbourne police spokesperson has identified the victim as 58-year-old Ricardo Rodriguez of Melbourne.
The other male is in stable condition at a local hospital and is expected to recover.
This case is being investigated as a homicide. Anyone with information is asked to call the Melbourne Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 321-608-6400.
The incident unfolded as MPD officers were called to the apartment complex around 6 a.m. Monday for a reported suspicious incident.
While responding, the officers heard gunshots nearby and quickly located two adult men outside an apartment unit.
Police said one of the men was suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital for treatment. The second man, later identified as Rodriguez, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said the incident appears to be isolated and confirmed that all individuals involved have been accounted for. Police emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The case remains under active investigation, and no additional details about what led to the shooting have been released at this time.
