Hello, everyone. I’m Sheriff Wayne Ivey, with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, and I want to give you a snapshot of what our deputies face out here every day.

They come to work, they go out, and even a traffic stop turns into something like what you’re about to see. As he did the traffic stop for no headlight on the vehicle, both of the subjects got out. They both come around the car, as you can see in the video.

Can you stay right there? Can you come up over here? You want to come up over here? Thank you. Beers. ¿Estoy viendo? No, just stay right here for now, okay? No weapons, nothing like that? Oh, nothing. You mind if I put you down? No. Okay.

He did a cursory search on them to make sure they didn’t have any weapons. And then he was going to try to ID them because both of them had Mexican IDs. So he’s going to try and see if they were in the country legally or not. illegally.

Well, their actions told us what was going on because both of them, as you can see, flee from our deputy.

Maddern got out, chased him down. He had some help from Sergeant Hannigan, who was able to capture one of them; he got the other one, brought them both back. And guess what? Not only were they in our country illegally, but here’s the deal. Jose Malagon, one of them, had a Customs and Border Patrol encounter back in 23 and was out of the country.

Leonardo Malagon had an encounter with Customs and Border Patrol in July and August of 22, was deported on both occasions, and here he is back in our country again. So they both are now in custody at the Brevard County Jail.

They’re both going to be deported out of the country again, who knows how long before they get back, because that’s what apparently happened. They just go out and come right back each and every time. But we’re doing our job. We are getting them out of the country.

They came into our country illegally. They’re out here driving with no driver’s license. That’s what one of the charges was. And then they flee from our deputies, putting them in harm’s way. Our deputies happen to chase them down.

We get injuries all the time, whether it’s somebody blowing out a knee or breaking an ankle, whatever it is, our deputies are having to pursue them and get them into custody.

So guess what? I don’t want to hear any, oh, I feel so sorry for them. They’re hardworking individuals. You know what? They’re hardworking at breaking the damn law, coming into our country legally, and then driving without a driver’s license, and then disobeying lawful orders, and fleeing from our deputies, so they’re right where they long deported out of our country.

Great job by Deputy Mattern for not only getting them off the street, but also being able to run them down, and Sergeant Hannigan getting involved, getting them both back in custody. Our team’s out there getting it done, but this is what they deal with each and every day.
