Brian Moss, 16, Viera Hawks Football Player, to Be Remembered Saturday at Viera High School

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – A private memorial service is being held Saturday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at Viera High School for Brian Moss, a beloved student who tragically passed away just before Christmas.

Brian, 16, was a freshman at Viera High School and a member of the Viera Hawks football team. Despite his young age, he had already made a lasting impression on teammates, coaches, and classmates.

Brian, whose dedication and talent on the football field marked him as a rising star, died tragically on Christmas Eve after sustaining injuries in a car accident.

He was traveling with his family at the time of the crash, driving home from an event in DeLand, Florida.

“On behalf of the Moss family, we wanted to inform you of a private memorial service being held tonight for Brian Moss, a beloved student who tragically passed away just before Christmas,” said Brevard Public Schools spokesperson Janet Murnaghan on Saturday.

He was recently named the team’s Varsity Specialty Player of the Year, an uncommon achievement for a freshman and a testament to his work ethic and football instincts.

In a statement, the Church at Viera, where the Moss family worshipped, confirmed his passing, saying Brian died from injuries sustained in the accident. The news sent shockwaves through the school community and beyond, casting a somber tone over the holiday season and the start of the new year.

Viera Hawks head football coach Tony Gulla described Brian as more than just a gifted athlete.

“This is a tough loss,” Gulla said. “He was a great kid and an excellent student.”

The coach noted that Brian was expected to become the team’s starting cornerback next season after a standout freshman year that showcased both his athletic ability and football IQ.

To honor his memory, Coach Gulla led the team in a tribute following the news of his death, with players completing 34 push-ups in recognition of Brian’s jersey number—a quiet but powerful gesture reflecting the respect and affection his teammates had for him.

Brian will be remembered not for the manner of his passing but for his kindness, discipline, and the bright future that once lay ahead.

He leaves behind a grieving family, a heartbroken school, and a football program forever changed by his loss. Brian’s life, though far too short, touched many, and his legacy will endure in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
