Space Coast Renaissance Fair Opens Saturday, Brings Living History and Immersive Entertainment to Viera
By AJ Plonsky // January 9, 2026
Space Coast Daily Park will be transformed into a living medieval village filled with music, combat, storytelling and spectacle!

Blend history with folklore, add colorful characters and lavish costumes, sprinkle in an immersive storyline, and stage it all at a centerpiece location in the heart of the Space Coast — that is the winning formula behind the Space Coast Renaissance Fair, which opens Saturday at Space Coast Daily Park in Viera.

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – When cameras were first invented, many pondered whether paintings would become obsolete. When movies first became popular, people wondered whether live theater would die.
However, every day, artists sell their paintings to museums and collectors. According to Playbill, Broadway grossed over a billion dollars in 2025.
Now, with the rising popularity of A.I., the point of a Renaissance Fair may come into question. In a world of technology and advancement, why does a Renaissance Fair matter?
Technology cannot replace what a Renaissance Fair or other popular, public special events can provide. They provide the human connection, creative outlets, and entertainment you just can’t see through a screen. The Renaissance Fairs don’t compete with AI; they exist entirely outside it.
Whether you’re doomscrolling or crunching numbers at a cubicle, technology keeps us physically detached from the world. Often, we consume worlds rather than immerse ourselves in them.
With all the stress of everyday life, the Space Coast Renaissance Fair can create a break from technology and advancement. According to Medium, “escapism can be an enjoyable distraction from life.”
However, Escapism isn’t avoidance — it’s a way to relieve stress and put things into perspective. Work can be stressful, whether you’re flipping burgers or crunching numbers, and the Space Coast Renaissance Fair gives that lifestyle a breather.

According to Psychology Today, productivity is cited as a healthy form of escapism because it can not only rejuvenate our energy but also inspire us to approach our work from a fresh perspective.
The Space Coast Renaissance Fair is a great outlet for stress relief because fantasy gives people what reality sometimes cannot: escape. An escape into a positive environment that encourages the imagination to explore.
There are several ways a Renaissance Fair could encourage productivity.
To prepare for a Renaissance fair, one can sew costumes, learn gardening, and basic leather care. A Renaissance fair can also help social confidence. One can meet strangers and engage in interactive performances.
Creatives (actors, writers, etc.) can use the Space Coast Renaissance Fair as a good way to research crowd dynamics (expected attendance is in the thousands) and study speech dynamics from the various performers.
Technology can keep us disconnected. Seeing the world through a screen, rather than through our eyes. Immerse yourself in another reality at the Space Coast Renaissance Fair on the 11th and 12th and the 17th and 18th in Viera.

Blend history with folklore, add colorful characters and lavish costumes, sprinkle in an immersive storyline, and stage it all at a centerpiece location in the heart of the Space Coast — that is the winning formula behind the Space Coast Renaissance Fair, a new winter tradition taking shape through the partnership of Brevard Productions, Inc. and the Orlando Renaissance Festival.
Among the signature attractions helping bring that vision to life is Equus Nobilis, a nationally recognized theatrical jousting company whose performances place horses — and the centuries-old art of mounted combat — at center stage.
The Space Coast Renaissance Fair will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the winter weekends of January 10–11 and January 17–18 at Space Coast Daily Park, 5775 Stadium Parkway in Viera, transforming the venue into a living medieval village filled with music, combat, storytelling, and spectacle.
At the heart of that spectacle are the thunderous hooves, gleaming armor, and dramatic clashes of Equus Nobilis.
That same spirit of collaboration extends to the performers selected for the fair — including Equus Nobilis, whose shows align seamlessly with the fair’s emphasis on authenticity, immersion, and high-caliber entertainment.

Horses at the Heart of the Story
True to its name — Latin for “noble horse” — Equus Nobilis centers every performance around equine skill and partnership.
The company was rebranded in late 2018 by professional stuntman Dan Foss, who brings more than 25 years of jousting experience and decades of horse performance expertise to the production.
Foss reshaped the show to emphasize not only action, but storytelling, horsemanship, and audience engagement. The result is an action-packed theatrical experience where horses and riders are equal stars.
A rotating cast of trained horses and skilled performers presents jousting shows that build throughout the day, beginning with a lighter pleasure joust and escalating toward a dramatic joust of war. While the storylines progress, each performance is designed to stand alone, allowing fairgoers to step into the experience at any point.

A Showcase of Skill and Spectacle
Equus Nobilis performances highlight two primary disciplines: advanced horse skills and professional stage combat.
Mounted demonstrations include joust passes with and without a list, ring jousting, saddle falls, and horse-to-horse combat — all requiring precision timing, balance, and deep trust between horse and rider. These feats are complemented by ground combat sequences featuring a wide range of medieval weaponry, including swords, axes, flails, and shields.
Every clash is carefully choreographed to look fierce while maintaining strict safety standards for both performers and horses, blending realism with theatrical storytelling.

Elevating the Renaissance Experience
The presence of Equus Nobilis underscores the broader mission of the Space Coast Renaissance Fair: to create an experience that feels alive, immersive, and rooted in the spirit of the Renaissance — a period defined by innovation, creativity, and advancement.
Just as the Renaissance marked a rebirth of ideas, organizers say the Space Coast Renaissance Fair represents a fresh, ambitious addition to the region’s cultural landscape, offering residents and visitors an event that combines history, folklore, and live performance at a professional level.

Beyond jousting, Equus Nobilis can also provide noble horses and specialty props for themed appearances, adding depth and authenticity to festival settings and special events alike.
With its central location, carefully curated entertainment, and experienced leadership, the Space Coast Renaissance Fair is positioning itself as a standout seasonal attraction — and the thunder of hooves from Equus Nobilis’ jousting field is set to be one of its defining sounds.

The eclectic, alluring mashup of history and myth is being orchestrated by two groups known for delivering quality yet affordable entertainment.
Brevard Productions, Inc., east central Florida’s premier events and sports management company, has for five decades entertained the Space Coast with blockbusters such as the annual Space Coast State Fair, the Palm Bay Fair, the Key Lime Pie Festival, the Strawberry Festival and more, plus hosted concerts of A-list stars, including Willie Nelson, the Beach Boys and Lee Greenwood, to name a few.
Kira Phillips has recruited an impressive team of creatives and talent to ensure the fair’s success.
A specialty scenic painter at Epcot, Phillips earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in theater design. To satisfy her interest in all things Renaissance, she attended “Ren” fairs across the state, where she discovered a strange phenomenon.
“I was driving three, four, and five hours to these events and kept seeing people from Orlando,” she said.
“I realized we needed to fill the gap here in Orlando.” And so she did, with an event that draws approximately 10,000 each year. Her approach is to blend history with folklore and, most importantly, give her patrons free rein with costumes.
“Our patrons come in whatever garb they would like,” Phillips said, adding that around 80 percent of attendees to the Orlando event arrive in costumes that run the gamut of cosplay. “We welcome everyone.”

Phillips expects Space Coast patrons to embrace the freedom to dress up as their favorite characters. She is finessing the program to keep everyone in the family happy.
“Kira and her team come from a very creative, theatrical environment, and they’re excellent at what they do,” Malone added. “With our venue and experience and their expertise, we knew we had the right recipe for a very memorable event.”
Attendees won’t have to drive far for the fun of the fair. Located in the center of the county and in proximity to Interstate 95, the 50-acre Space Coast Daily Park offers easy access and plenty of parking to let the magic begin as soon as possible.

Welcoming guests to their Viera “Castle” will be renowned hosts Count Victor and Countess Celeste de Viera, centerpieces of this year’s immersive storyline.
The noble couple is eager to celebrate the beginning of a new year with the thousands of guests they have invited, and they are prepared to put on a grand show with the finest in live performances by a handpicked cast of artists, interactive shows to engage the audience, and a bounty of food, libations, and souvenirs.

Featured guest, and alleged protector of the peace, is the Sheriff of Nottingham, who, at the bidding of the Count and Countess, will bring his entourage to maintain law and order and prevent ruffians such as Robin Hood from wreaking havoc. Is the Sheriff the hero in this retelling of the legend?
Alas, the duplicitous Sheriff and his gang are still not to be trusted and are bent on plundering Viera’s riches. It is again up to Robin and his Merry Men to save the day and outwit the evil Sheriff in a game fought upon the Chessboard Stage. Will good Robin prevail? Time will tell if you attend the Fair.

For a mere $27.03, or $16.62 if you happen to be 12 and under, you can join the Count and Countess for a day, but because one day is not enough to enjoy the cornucopia of entertainment, options for two, three, and four-day passes are available and highly affordable.
Admission provides a full day of entertainment featuring more than 100 professional performers, from acrobats to tavern wenches, dressed in authentic period costumes. Delicious food, plentiful shopping, and hearty drinks abound.

Speaking of hearty drinking, the Space Coast Renaissance Fair will feature twice-daily pub crawls led by The Wyrd Friends, revelers eternally at the ready for a good time.
“They’ll play games, sing songs, and have much merriment,” Phillips said. The audience will also enjoy a drink, or make that three drinks, as the $35 tickets to the pub crawl entitle each guest to three beers or ciders, plus appetizers, during the one-hour VIP crawl.

Noble steeds, a staple of Ren fairs, will be at the Space Coast, of course. Action-packed theatrical jousting show Equus Nobilis will display astounding horse skills and ground combat abilities.
Professional acts from around the country, as well as 70 members of the Lance Orlando troupe, will perform for the crowds. Scheduled to appear are performers such as Ses Carny, who has been known to pound a nail into his head, but will tackle the “safer” skills of fire juggling and knife throwing this time around.
Lance Orlando is a nonprofit organization making live combat entertainment accessible to a broad audience.
Because folks in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance didn’t shy away from bawdiness, the Space Coast Renaissance Fair will feature special “risque” entertainment for grownups 18 and up. But not to worry, for while the adults will have their special place, most of the entertainment is family-friendly.

Phillips likes to continue the illusion with the food and drink available at the Fair, selecting vendors who deliver gustatory delights in keeping with the theme. She also anticipates 70 to 80 crafts, gifts, and souvenir vendors, all carefully curated.

“We prioritize goods and crafts handmade by the seller,” she said. Attendees can expect everything from clothing and toys to leather and wood goods. “This is a massive amount of vendors for a first-year event,” she said. “It speaks to the strength of the partnership we have forged.”
Huzzah, fair lords and ladies! With Space Coast Renaissance Fair, January should bring “all the joy that you can wish,” as that quintessential Ren guy, William Shakespeare, would have put it.
