Former Cocoa standout and championship assistant takes over storied program

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — It’s official: Coach Nate Hooks is returning home to lead Tiger Nation. Cocoa High School announced that Hooks, a Cocoa graduate, Hall of Famer, and longtime member of the Tigers’ championship coaching staff, has been named the next head coach of the Cocoa Tigers football program.
Cocoa High School remains one of Florida’s most successful football programs, supported by a passionate and engaged community. With seven state championships and consistent deep playoff runs, the Tigers continue to set a standard of excellence both on the field and in preparing young men for success beyond high school.
As Tiger Nation turns the page to its next chapter, one thing is clear: Coach Hooks is back — and it’s time to get to work.
Hooks’ return marks a homecoming steeped in tradition at a school built on opportunity and the power of community. A Cocoa alumnus who understands the expectations that come with Tiger Pride, Hooks now takes the reins of one of Florida’s most storied high school football programs.
Hooks said leading the Tigers is both an honor and a responsibility.
“I’m honored to lead the Tigers,” Hooks said.
“Cocoa is special — its people, its pride, and its expectations. I, along with my coaching staff, will serve this community, develop our young men, and compete with class. Integrity and discipline will be the foundation of that work. Most importantly, we’ll work every day to help our student-athletes earn opportunities at the next level.”

Proven Winner and Program Builder
Coach Hooks brings a winning résumé and a reputation for developing college-bound student-athletes. Across eight seasons as head coach at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, Hooks compiled an overall record of 48–36, delivering the program’s first-ever Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) playoff victory.
In 2023, Hooks engineered a dramatic turnaround at Melbourne Central Catholic, leading the Hustlers to a 9–3 record and a district championship, the program’s most successful season in seven years.
Beyond wins and championships, Hooks has earned statewide recognition for his relentless focus on helping student-athletes secure college scholarships—a priority that aligns directly with Cocoa High’s mission.

Championship Pedigree at Cocoa
Hooks is no stranger to success on Tiger Trail. He previously served as Quarterbacks Coach for Cocoa’s 2022 and 2024 state championship teams, as well as the 2025 state semifinal (Final Four) squad.
During that period, he mentored one of Florida’s most elite quarterback rooms, elevating the Tigers’ passing game alongside Cocoa’s offensive coaching staff.
The Tigers have claimed seven state championships overall — 2008 (3A), 2009 (2A), 2010 (2A), 2016 (4A), 2022 (2S), 2023 (2S), and 2024 (2A) — cementing their place among Florida’s high school football elite. Cocoa also reached the state semifinals in 2025, continuing a sustained run of postseason excellence.

Cocoa Athletic Director David Kintigh said the decision reflects both performance and purpose.
“Cocoa High is a school of opportunity where academics, athletics, and community work together,” Kintigh said.
“Coach Hooks is a Cocoa Tiger who has delivered results and relentlessly advocates for student-athletes’ college scholarship opportunities. We’re proud to see a Cocoa alumnus step into the head coach role. Coach Hooks has long been part of our standard of excellence, and we feel confident that his leadership will carry on the winning traditions of the Cocoa High football program.”
Cocoa High School will host a “Meet the Coach” event on March 20, giving students, families, alumni, and community members an opportunity to welcome Hooks back and hear his vision for the future of Tiger football.
