BPS Awarded $2M for New Aviation Program at Space Coast Junior/Senior High School

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard Public Schools (BPS) is proud to announce the award of more than $2 million in federal funding to establish a new Aviation Assembly and Fabrication Program at Space Coast Junior/Senior High School, expanding high-demand career and technical education opportunities for students across North Brevard.
This significant investment—secured through the advocacy efforts of Congressman Mike Haridopolos as part of a federal appropriations package dedicated to workforce and talent development—will enable BPS to build a program modeled on the district’s highly successful aviation pathway at Eau Gallie High School.

That program has become a regional leader in preparing students for careers in aerospace, aviation maintenance, and advanced manufacturing.
The new Aviation Assembly and Fabrication Program at Space Coast Jr./Sr. High will offer hands-on, industry-aligned training in:
– Aircraft assembly
– Structural fabrication
– Welding and metalwork
– Surface preparation and painting
– Maintenance and repair practices
These skills directly reflect the needs of Florida’s rapidly growing aerospace sector and the emerging advanced manufacturing economy nationwide.
“This funding represents a transformational opportunity for students in North Brevard,” said School Board Chair Matt Susin, who previously taught at Space Coast Jr./Sr. High School.
“Brevard Public Schools remains committed to providing pathways that pair academic excellence with industry‑ready skills. Expanding our aviation and technical training programs ensures our students are prepared for real careers—and strengthens the workforce pipeline that supports the Space Coast’s booming economy.”

With Brevard County home to one of the nation’s most active and fastest-growing aerospace corridors, demand for skilled aviation and space professionals continues to rise.
By establishing this program at Space Coast Jr./Sr. High, BPS is creating a direct pathway for students to pursue high-wage, high-skill careers immediately after graduation or continue their education in aviation, engineering, and other related technical fields.
“This investment is about expanding opportunities,” said Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell.
“Students will gain access to cutting-edge equipment, rigorous industry certifications, and real‑world experience that can open doors to employment, apprenticeships, and postsecondary programs in aviation and engineering.”
