By Space Coast Daily // February 2, 2026

TRAVEL ADVISORY: I-95 is currently being shut down for both directions between mile marker 166 (Saint John’s Heritage Parkway) and mile marker 173 (Malabar Road) due to visibility concerns from the large brush fire. Drivers are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
MALABAR, FLORIDA — A stretch of Interstate 95 in South Brevard County was shut down in both directions Monday as thick smoke from a large brush fire created dangerous visibility conditions, prompting a travel advisory from authorities.
According to officials, I-95 is closed between mile marker 166 near Saint John’s Heritage Parkway and mile marker 173 at Malabar Road. The closure affects all northbound and southbound lanes in the area as emergency crews work to manage the fire and protect motorists.
Fire officials reported that heavy smoke drifting across the interstate significantly reduced visibility, making travel unsafe. Law enforcement officers are assisting with traffic control while fire crews continue suppression efforts near the blaze.
Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes until further notice. Motorists already traveling in the region should expect delays and follow instructions from law enforcement and emergency personnel.
No injuries or structural damage related to the brush fire have been reported at this time. Authorities did not immediately provide an estimate for when the interstate may reopen, noting that conditions will be evaluated as firefighting operations continue and smoke clears.
Officials emphasized that conditions can change quickly and urged travelers to monitor local traffic updates and public safety alerts before traveling.
