BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – NASA is honoring the life and legacy of former astronaut John Fabian following his passing on May 21, 2026.
To commemorate Fabian’s extraordinary contributions to the nation’s space program, a remembrance wreath has been placed inside Space Shuttle Atlantis, paying tribute to one of NASA’s pioneering astronauts and Space Shuttle veterans.
Fabian, a retired U.S. Air Force officer and NASA astronaut, flew on three Space Shuttle missions during his distinguished career, helping advance the agency’s early shuttle program and contributing to critical missions in space exploration.
The tribute inside Atlantis serves as a symbol of remembrance and gratitude for Fabian’s decades of service, leadership, and dedication to human spaceflight.
Visitors and NASA personnel alike are reflecting on his lasting impact on the space community and the generations of astronauts and engineers who followed in his footsteps.
Fabian’s career with NASA included missions aboard STS-7, STS-51-G, and STS-61-A, where he logged hundreds of hours in space while supporting scientific research, satellite deployments, and international cooperation in spaceflight.
NASA officials said Fabian’s legacy will continue to inspire future explorers as the agency honors his contributions to America’s space program.
