The fatal crash occurred at approximately 3:50 a.m. on June 24 along Viera Boulevard, east of Independence Avenue.

Investigators said the teen was operating an electric scooter eastbound on the outside shoulder of Viera Boulevard and was traveling in the same direction as traffic when a vehicle veered onto the shoulder and struck the rider.

According to FHP, a black 2009 Hyundai Genesis was traveling eastbound when it drifted onto the right shoulder. The right side of the vehicle collided with the e-scooter rider before the driver fled the scene without stopping.
