Accident Shuts Down SR 528 Westbound Near I-95

Westbound Lanes Temporarily Closed
UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol released a report on the accident.
According to FHP, Carol Hubener, 77 of Merritt Island was driving her 2009 Toyota SUV eastbound in the westbound lane of SR 528. Hal White, 42 of Rockledge was driving his 2004 Chrysler sedan westbound on 528 and Mark Monteith, 52 of Lake Mary was driving his Subaru sedan westbound, when Hubener sideswiped White. The front of Monteith’s car struck the rear of White’s. Monteith’s car then caught fire. Hubener then traveled westbound in the westbound lanes of SR 528. A road ranger and trooper caught up to Hubener near SR 417 in Orange County. Hubener stopped on the exit ramp to Narcoosee Rd. and appeared to be disoriented.
Brevard County Fire Rescue reports that the driver of the PT Cruiser (pictured below) had to be extricated and was flown from the scene as a trauma patient. The other car was on fire, extinguished by crews off the highway.
The crash remains under investigation.
