BREVARD COUNTY, FL – In the midst of its second of three trips through the Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference, Eastern Florida’s women’s basketball team sits alone in first place with a 6-1 record.
The six conference teams play each other three times each to determine the top three finishers who advance to the FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 tournament in Ocala in March.
The most recent appearance for a Titans women’s team was in 2003, something Eastern Florida second-year head coach Jim Grimes acknowledges but isn’t discussing with his team.
After all, much basketball remains to be played beginning with Tuesday’s 5:30 p.m. game at conference foe Broward College (3-16, 0-7) in Davie. St. Petersburg College, which has split two games with Eastern Florida, and Palm Beach State sit second in the conference at 5-2.
Miami Dade is 4-3 and Indian River State 1-6. St. Petersburg visits Indian River on Tuesday and Palm Beach hosts Miami Dade.

“We’ve still got so much room for improvement,” Grimes said of his team, which is 15-6 overall.
“We still have not played a complete 40-minute game.
“We’ve been on the floor for 40 minutes but we haven’t followed our principles for 40 minutes, we haven’t competed for 40 minutes, haven’t played offense for 40 minutes, haven’t rebounded, haven’t played defense.
“You would think that after 21 games I would have figured out how to put together a complete effort but it’s been elusive. Until we play a complete 40 minutes we are vulnerable,” said Grimes.

Sophomore co-captain Jessica Doyle leads Eastern Florida in scoring at 12.5 points per game followed by freshman Nene Johnson at 11.5 and sophomore co-captain Rachelle Aupont at 11.2.
Aupont and freshman Crystal Townsend are the leading rebounders at 10.1 and 9.1 respectively.
Johnson leads in assists at 3.5 and freshman Paola Vasquez in steals at 2.3. Eastern Florida returns home to host Miami Dade at 2 p.m.
