Florida Tech Basketball’s Derek Murphy Named to All-Sunshine State Conference Team

Murphy was SSC's scoring champion this season with 23.1 points per game
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Sunshine State Conference announced its 2018-19 All-SSC Teams on Thursday and Florida Tech’s Derek Murphy received second team honors. This is Murphy’s first time receiving All-SSC honors.
A redshirt-junior, Murphy was the SSC’s scoring champion this season at 23.1 points per game, ahead of league Player of the Year, Jonathan Lawton (22.9) of Florida Southern.
Murphy boasted an average shooting percentage of .429 and scored in double-figures all 28 games this season, including a season-high 40 points against Rollins on Feb. 27.
The Detroit, Michigan product ranked third in the league in rebounding per game (8.2) and was second in total defensive boards (160).
Murphy finished first in the league in minutes per game (36.8) and 15th in steals per game (1.4). He recorded 10 double-doubles this season.
He garnered SSC weekly honors twice this season. Murphy earned defensive player of the week laurels on Nov. 26 and player of the week honors on Jan. 7.
The All-SSC teams are voted on by the league’s head coaches. A full breakdown of the 2018-19 All-SSC Men’s Basketball Teams can be found below:
