BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – United States Congressman Daniel Webster, Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, paid a noteworthy visit to Port Canaveral to tour the Carnival Mardi Gras – the first-of-its-kind LNG-powered cruise ship in North America.
“The visit provided an opportunity for him to witness the advanced LNG technology and environmental initiatives being implemented onboard and at Port Canaveral firsthand,” said a Port Canaveral spokesperson.
“The Congressman was accompanied by executives from Carnival Cruise Line and Port Canaveral staff.”
The Mardi Gras is Carnival’s biggest ship to date, accommodating 6,500 passengers at maximum capacity. The XL Class ship is powered by liquified natural gas (LNG) and began sailing from Port Canaveral in July of 2021.
